Let's talk about sex!
As you may know, the mission of the artist La Pimbêche is to inspire confidence, respect, optimism and acceptance, in order to contribute to a world that advocates love, equality and inclusion. Through her art, she inspires people to feel good about themselves. She is a multidisciplinary artist who is constantly pushing her own boundaries to find new ways to communicate her mission and her art.
Earlier this year, La Pimbêche discovered the non-profit organization Sex and Self and instantly fell in love with them! Sex and Self is a group of women from McGill University whose mission is to strive to provide comprehensive sex education to individuals across Canada and empower them to make decisions about their bodies. They organize seminars, workshops, events, and educational resources on sexuality for students and youth across Canada. The organization targets high school programs in the greater Montreal area, as well as McGill University. Their goal is to promote inclusive and complete sex education. Can I get an AMEN?
By joining their respective missions and values, Sex and Self and La Pimbêche have combined their strengths to create a unique project that is truly close to their hearts: a beautiful insightful zine! Never heard of a zine? A zine is a self-published work of short texts and original illustrations, printed in physical copies for distribution. In fact, it's a mini format of an illustration book without the hardcover. Zines are often the product of one person or a very small group.
"The Mindfulness Master-bation Zine" was created to educate vulva owners about sexual pleasure. The intention of La Pimbêche and Sex and Self is to destigmatize and help wxmen prioritize their sexual practices. This cute little guide will help them learn even more about their bodies and all the wonderful things they can do while working on being more confident in their sexuality. More specifically, the zine contains information about the anatomy of the vulva and clitoris, fun facts about the benefits of masturbation and also safe tips and practices. In bonus, the zine contains beautiful and inspiring images designed by the La Pimbêche artist. It’s literally a work of art!
The term "vulva owners" is used in the texts instead of "wxmen", because this zine is obviously meant to be inclusive. Yas Queen! This zine is for anyone who has a vulva. If you need to have more info, Sex and Self is a safe and inclusive place that can really help you through different events, conferences, and educational content. The organization also has a super interesting Podcast called Ladies, Let's Talk About Sex as well as an Instagram account called Bodies A-Z where you can find information about the anatomy of the body. Sex and Self is your go-to if you need to know anything about sex!
Are you convinced to grab one yet? Good news! It's available here for $18 and 40% of sales go directly to the non-profit organization Sex and Self to help them continue to educate and empower individuals about sexual practices. For now, it is only available in English version. By purchasing The Mindfulness Master-bation Zine, you will not only be supporting a non-profit organization and a Montreal-based artist, but you will also be learning a lot of information about the bodies of people with vulvas and their sexuality. Educating yourself while supporting a good cause, this is a win-win, right?
Speaking of good causes, if you feel like it, I invite you to check out the new "Stop Slut Shaming" navy hoodie that is available on La Pimbêche. This product is perfect to encourage discussion and to become an ambassador of this movement! The "Stop Slut Shaming" design is also available on a beautiful 8" X 8" poster to brighten up your home.
In conclusion, just know that no matter what is your level of knowledge on sexual practices, on the anatomy of the body, on the emancipation of wxmen's sexuality, on the vulva, the clitoris, or masturbation, you have your spot in the community of La Pimbêche and Sex and Self. These are two safe places where you can be your true self and educate yourself at your own pace on a lot of subjects, without embarrassment, without shame and without taboo.
I say it's time to take back our power. Be proud to be who you are. Be proud of the path you've taken and honor the one that's right ahead of you. You should be proud to take a step towards knowing more yourself or others. You are perfect as you are, with all your flaws and all your imperfections. You have your place in this world, even if you didn’t find it yet. Your vulnerability is not a weakness, it is one of your greatest strengths. Your emotions are valid. You already have everything you need to accomplish everything you want, my friend, I promise you.
